White eggs Quality Alto Adige
A family of mountain farmers has switched to free-range eggs
From Barn to Chicken Coop
In 2010, the Domanegg family decided to transform the cow barn at their mountain farm into a roomy chicken coop. The fowl also approved of this idea. Now, the merry free-ranging chickens of the Kirchsteighof farm cluck and lay high-quality eggs bearing the South Tyrolean seal of quality where once cows used to low.

Their welfare is not only guaranteed by the chicken coop, equipped with lots of straw and decorated with love and care. High above the valley basin of Bolzano/Bozen, near Afing/Avigna, at an altitude of 850 metres, the chickens have ample room to run and can pursue their favorite pastime, pecking and scratching, in total peace, surrounded by meadows and forests in a very quiet location. The young family of mountain farmers also provides them with high-quality feed.

So far, the Domanegg family has never regretted their decision to focus on the production of free-range eggs. “I can work at my own pace and I’m out in natural surroundings every day. What brings me the most joy is being my own boss, having contact with people, and how easy it is to reconcile work and family life”, says farmer Robert Domanegg.

The South Tyrol/Südtirol free-range eggs from the Kirchsteighof farm are greatly appreciated in the immediate region, both by stores and food service facilities. They keep transport routes short and go easy on the environment. The white eggs from the Kirchsteighof farm enjoy a particular boost in popularity around Easter, when the children from the surrounding municipalities decorate them for the festivities.
